John Giovale, President
\\r\\n
John is a long time resident of Flagstaff where he and his wife, Ginger, raised four boys (three of which attended Camp Colton). He was employed by W. L. Gore and associates for 33 years where he participated in the divisional leadership of the Company. John believes “Camp Colton has become an important experience for young people growing up in the Flagstaff community. For many kids, Camp Colton provides their first experience learning about nature away from home. Camp also reinforces many of the values important to sustaining Flagstaff’s environmental quality…something we all enjoy.” John joined the Friends of Camp Colton to help reduce the financial uncertainty associated with the annual funding of the program. Equally important to John is working with the Friends Board and FUSD leadership to continue the great experience Camp Colton offers to Flagstaff’s sixth grade students.

\\r\\n
\\r\\nLauren Berutich, Vice President
\\r\\nLauren was introduced to the program through a friend who enthusiastically expressed, “If you\'re interested in Environmental Education, then you have to meet Cameron and learn about Camp Colton!” This was some of the best advice she has received since her arrival in Flagstaff seven years ago. Lauren served as an Environmental Education instructor at Camp Colton for three years, provided administrative assistance in the office and updated Camp’s curriculum to effectively address Arizona State Standards. Lauren currently serves as the Friends of Camp Colton’s Vice President and “believes that every child has the right to a hands-on, experiential outdoor education that heightens their sense of learning and understanding of place.” She is pursuing a M.A. from NAU in Sustainable Communities with and emphasis on hands-on learning in sustainable classrooms.
\\r\\n
\\r\\nEmily Musta, Secretary
\\r\\nEmily is a Flagtaff native, an alumnus of Camp Colton and a former Camp Colton instructor. She holds degrees from both U of A and NAU and currently teaches Biology and Environmental Science at Flagstaff High School. As a student, Emily was influenced by her experience at Camp Colton to pursue outdoor education---which eventually led to teaching. She joined the FCC board to help ensure the continuation of the Camp Colton experience for local children. \\"I believe Camp Colton is an essential element of the Flagstaff community, especially because it is the first experience that some students have with spending a week outside. I loved working there.\\"\\r\\n

\\r\\n
\\r\\nThom O\'Hara, Board Member
\\r\\nThom moved to Flagstaff in 1974 to attend Northern Arizona University where he earned a B.S. in Education. He also attended classes at Stanford and Wharton Universities, taught elementary school, was a former Certified Quality Engineer and for the past 32 years, has worked for W.L. Gore and Associates in the roles of Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, QA/QE and Business Leadership. As the father of three grown children (one attended Camp Colton), Thom has also served on various school boards, community task forces and site councils. As the newest member of the FCC board, Thom shares that “FCC is an organization with strong vision, great goals and a worthwhile purpose. Camp Colton is an exciting and engaging project that I believe I can help by extending my talents, insights and point of view. I feel it is important to be a part of the community and help in whatever way I can…”\\r\\n
\\r\\n
\\r\\nDanny Giovale, Board Member
\\r\\nDanny was born and raised in Flagstaff and is a Camp alumnus. He earned a B.S. in Physics from Westminster College of Salt Lake City and is the Founder/Owner of Kahtoola, Inc; a Flagstaff-based outdoor winter gear company. Danny believes that Camp Colton is a valuable and unique community treasure and he joined the FCC board to contribute to its long term success and stability. “I remember being at Camp on the first day and having a sense of freedom and responsibility that was new and exhilarating. Camp Colton provides 6th graders with a fantastic opportunity to make a developmental leap and to learn about the natural environment. The experience provided by Camp Colton is something most of us remember fondly for the rest of our lives. I hope to see all Flagstaff 6th graders have an opportunity to attend.” \\r\\n
\\r\\n
Neil Chapman, Board Member
\\r\\n
\\r\\nNeil moved to Flagstaff in September of 2006 from Chicago, Illinois. He earned a B.S. in Natural Resource Management from Colorado State University in 2001 and joined The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in 2004 to work at the Nachusa Grasslands in Franklin Grove, Illinois and the Illinois State Field Office in Chicago. Neil has managed The Nature Conservancy’s Hart Prairie Preserve Program (located next to Camp Colton) since moving to Flagstaff. When asked about his profession, Neil says he has a “passion for implementing ecological restoration in forest and grassland environments.” He joined the FCC board in 2009 because he is interested in strengthening the relationship between Hart Prairie Preserve and Camp Colton and believes that “Camp helps children form meaningful relationships with nature.”

\\r\\n
\\r\\nJane Emberty, Board Member\\r\\nJane has lived in Flagstaff since 1982. She has over 20 years experience in the Human Resources Management industry and is currently consulting, training and coaching through her own business. “My three daughters attended Camp Colton as sixth graders and enjoyed it very much. One even worked at Camp as a Night Counselor while attending NAU pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. Because of the experiences my children had with Camp, I witnessed first hand how Camp positively affects children during their early years.” Jane joined the Friends of Camp Colton (FCC) board in the early 2000’s as an opportunity to contribute to the organization and give back to the community. She served as FCC’s Board President from 2003-2009 and continues as a trustee.
